About Balkan Footwear
Balkan Footwear is a footwear manufacturing company located in Ruma, in Serbia's Srem District. This website presents the company as a corporate manufacturing partner, with an emphasis on craftsmanship, materials, production stages and business collaboration.
The pages that follow explain how footwear is typically made, which materials are commonly used in the industry, and which kinds of businesses we are open to working with. We are not an online store, and nothing here is offered for retail sale.
Our direction
The statements below are proposed corporate wording, intended to be reviewed and edited by the company.
To make footwear with careful craftsmanship and functional design, and to build collaborative, transparent relationships with our business partners.
To grow into a respected footwear manufacturing business known for dependable work and thoughtful attention to detail.
Consistent quality, continuous process improvement, strong material awareness and long-term partnerships built on mutual trust.
Manufacturing
A typical footwear production sequence. Actual workflows vary by product and factory; confirm specifics before publishing as company practice.
Concepts, technical drawings and samples define the style, fit and construction method.
Leathers, textiles, linings, soles and components are chosen for appearance, performance and use.
Patterns for each upper part are created, then materials are cut with attention to grain and defects.
Cut pieces are skived, joined and stitched, and linings and reinforcements are added.
The upper is pulled over a last, a foot-shaped form, to give the shoe its shape.
Soles are joined to the upper by cementing, stitching or moulding, depending on construction.
Shoes are cleaned, polished and checked for finish, symmetry and construction.
Finished pairs are paired, packed and prepared for shipment.
Leather & materials
General material knowledge for context. This does not state which materials Balkan Footwear currently uses.
Uses the complete top layer of the hide with its natural grain intact. Known for durability and for developing a patina over time.
Dress shoes, bootsThe surface is lightly sanded or buffed to even out blemishes, giving a more uniform look and often a smoother, more consistent finish.
Casual and formal footwearLeather with a soft, napped surface, usually from the flesh side or underside of the hide. Soft but more sensitive to moisture and stains.
Casual shoes, bootsGrain-side leather lightly sanded to a fine velvety nap. Typically more resilient than suede, with a refined matte look.
Boots, casual footwearWoven and knitted fabrics, mesh and lining materials affect breathability, comfort and weight inside and outside the shoe.
Uppers, linings, insolesRubber offers grip and wear resistance. EVA is a light, cushioned foam. Polyurethane (PU) balances flexibility, cushioning and durability.
Outsoles and midsolesGrade versus animal source. Full-grain and top-grain describe how leather is processed and which layer of the hide is used. Cowhide, calfskin, goatskin and sheepskin describe the animal the hide comes from. The two are independent: for example, calfskin can be full-grain or top-grain.
